Narumi debuted on Universal Music in 1999 with the single “Circle of Days” as the vocalist and songwriter of the band Keno. With their folky, groovy sound and outstanding performance, Keno drew attention from the music industry and the debut single received heavy rotation on the radio and was a hot topic in the music magazines. In September of 1999 , Keno released the second single “Heat Haze ?Kagerou?” followed by the third single “Ohayou,” released in 2000. “Ohayou” was the theme song for the Fuji TV animation “HUNTER×HUNTER” and became a hit selling more than 100,000 copies. Subsequently, Keno released their 4th single “Palette” in May 2000 and their first album “Breathe” in June, followed up by the 5th single “Be with you” in January 2001.
In 2002, he started his composing/songwriting career as Kazuto Narumi and continues to be active as a singer, songwriter and producer. In 2008, he composed and wrote Kumi Koda’s single, “stay with me” which debuted at # 1 on the Oricon single chart. In 2018, he composed and wrote the song “Defiance” for Jae Joong which became the opening theme song for the TBS animation “ZOIDS WILD.” It hit #1 on Billboard Japan’s ‘Japan Hot Animation’ chart. Narumi has continued to provide songs for various artists including KinKi Kids, Bullet Train, ASTRO and more.
Also, he is working as the member of Juke Box Friday, the producing team he formed with one of his former band members.
